Overview

NKE develops and manufactures at Steyr in Upper Austria and sells through 240 distributors in more than 60 countries. It is smaller than the household names and competes on the awkward jobs: hybrid bearings with ceramic rolling elements, electrically insulated bearings, and made to order designs for OEMs.

Where it is used

Ask about NKE when the standard number is not the answer. A motor on a variable speed drive passes current through its bearings, and over months that current etches the raceways and the bearing fails early for no reason the maintenance log can explain. An insulated bearing breaks that path.

A hybrid bearing, with ceramic rolling elements on steel rings, does the same job by not conducting at all, and runs cooler and faster while it is at it. Both are drop in replacements for the standard size, so nothing on the machine has to change.

The same applies to made to order work. Where a machine builder needs a bearing that is not in anyone's catalogue, NKE is one of the makers small enough to quote a single design and large enough to hold the tolerance.
